Theory of EM Manipulation via Polarization Interactions

by Ian Tripp

Introduction

The nature of light and its interaction with matter has been a cornerstone of physical inquiry for centuries. From Newton's corpuscular theory to Einstein's photoelectric effect, our understanding of light has continually evolved, reshaping our view of the universe. This paper presents a novel theoretical framework that explores the fundamental properties of photons and their electromagnetic fields, potentially bridging gaps between classical and quantum descriptions of light.

By examining the polarization states of photons and their interactions when occupying the same space-time coordinates, we propose a mechanism for manipulating electromagnetic fields in ways previously unexplored. This theory, while speculative, offers new perspectives on the nature of light, the behavior of electromagnetic fields, and the potential for novel applications in energy transmission and information processing.

The concepts presented herein challenge our current understanding of photon interactions and electromagnetic field propagation. They invite us to reconsider fundamental aspects of quantum optics and electromagnetism, potentially opening new avenues for both theoretical physics and practical applications.

As we delve into these ideas, we encourage the reader to approach them with both scientific rigor and an open mind, recognizing that pushing the boundaries of our understanding often requires us to question long-held assumptions.

Key Assertions

  1. Photons are bosons that carry the Electromagnetic force (EM)
  2. Bosons, with fractional spin, are capable of existing in the same point of space-time
  3. Polarity is a property of photons that describes the orientation of that photon's EM field.
  4. There are infinite polarities available – importantly every polarity has an orthogonal polarity and two important semi-orthogonal polarities.
  5. For the purposes of this theory, I will refer to these polarities as P, P’, PE, PM
  6. For polarities PE and PM, an offset of 1/2 wavelength is needed to reverse polarities of the photon

  7. For simplicity linear polarities will be discussed, however this effect is not limited to linear polarities – all polarities should be equally viable.

Theoretical Framework

  • A photon with polarity P existing in the same space-time position as a photon with polarity P’ will cause the EM fields of both photons to cancel out.
  • A photon with polarity P existing in the same space-time position as a photon with polarity PE will cause the magnetic fields of both photons to cancel out, while the electric field resonates.
  • A photon with polarity P existing in the same space-time position as a photon with polarity PM will cause the electric fields of both photons to cancel out, while the magnetic field resonates.
  • Photon pairs in this superposition form a quasiparticle, here referred to as 'nixons', relating to the “nixed” fields*.
  • Nixons, therefore, can exist with no EM field, no electric field, or no magnetic field, resulting in either a magnetic monopole, electric monopole, or pure cancellation.
  • A coherent beam constructed of nixons could be used to transmit either an electric or magnetic field without the interference of the other.
  • Such beams could be use to transmit energy or force over great distances at light speed without massive particles.

Experimental Implications

This theory is still being validated, however should it be proven true these are some of the potential implications based on the outcomes of experimentation.  There are multiple experimental setups that could be used to test this theory at all scales - from nano to macro - and the author has considered multiple that have verifiable outcomes.

Nature of Photons

  • If photons are indeed particles and not just localized EM fields, then these nixons can be separated by a polarizing material. This would allow for the safe transmission of light through opaque matter.
  • However, if photons are only localized EM fields then these nixons are not in fact real and we will need new ways to describe the combination of photons in this way.

Nature of Monopole Beams

  • It is unknown how such monopole beams would interact with different types of matter of even other monopole beams
    • Magnetic monopole beams should allow interaction with magnetic fields over long distances without reduction in strength
    • Electric monopole beams should allow interaction with conductive materials over long distances without reduction in strength

Truly Exotic Polarizations

  • It should be possible, if this effect exists, to create unique polarizations of light where the electric and magnetic fields are not perpendicular.
  • In fact, it should be possible to create a photon with, for instance, a linear electric vector and circular magnetic vector.
